From Artistic Director
Dear friends, patrons, and fellow dance enthusiasts,
As we gather under the spotlight, our hearts resonate with joy and gratitude. It is my honor to welcome you to the 30th anniversary celebration of the Little Pear Garden Dance Company. Three decades of artistic expression, dedication, and boundless creativity have shaped our journey, and tonight, we weave together memories, movements, and magic.
Allow me to reflect on this remarkable odyssey—a tapestry woven by countless hands, nimble feet, and spirited souls. Our story began in 1994, when the visionary William Lau founded Little Pear Garden as a Peking Opera collective. From those humble beginnings, we blossomed into a respected professional dance company, bridging the realms of traditional and contemporary Chinese dance. Lau’s legacy lives on, and I am humbled to carry the torch he ignited.
Passion Unyielding: Our dancers, choreographers, and musicians breathe life into every step. Their unwavering passion fuels our existence. We dance not merely to entertain but to transcend—to touch hearts, provoke thought, and ignite wonder.
And now, as we unveil our 30th anniversary triple bill, we invite you to witness the culmination of these threads. Tonight, the stage breathes, and we dance—a symphony of silk, sweat, and spirit. From the ancient to the avant-garde, we traverse landscapes of emotion, inviting you to join us on this luminous voyage.
To our patrons who have cheered us on, our collaborators who have danced alongside, and our Little Pear Garden family—thank you. Your applause reverberates through time, stitching our past to our present, and our present to our future.
Let the music swell, the lights embrace us, and the dance unfold. For 30 years, we’ve danced through seasons, and tonight, we dance through eternity.
With deepest reverence,
Emily Cheung
