Modern Dance in China
As in the rest of the world, modern dance in China exists in all forms.
Since the twentieth century, a new form combining Chinese and western dance vocabularies has emerged and is known as Min Zu Wu Ju , meaning national dance drama. The Magic Lantern and The Butterfly Lovers are two well-known national dance dramas. Dance dramas usually reflect either historical or contemporary events. However, they are still considered ] a form of "Chinese Dance" since the dramas typically re-present the story of the Chinese people (including the minority nationalities) either in the past or present.
